Buy Poppies for Thai Veterens’ Day on 3rd February
In the UK, people wear a red poppy in advance of Remembrance Day on 11th November. In Thailand they do much the same. This picture from today’s Bangkok Post shows a women buying a red poppy from a soldier. In Thailand, Veterans’ Day (วันทหารผ่านศึก Wan Thahan Phan Suek) is on 3rd February. It commemorates the founding of the War Veterans Organization of Thailand. Remembrance ceremonies are held at Victory Monument in Bangkok.
When I lived in Thailand I bought a red poppy on their red poppy day.
Flanders Field, Red Poppy is symbolic of those veterans who gave their fullest measure of loyalty to their country.
