Thai Kids give Heart Stickers to their Friends on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day may have started in the West but the “National Day of Love” has most certainly been adopted by the Thai people. It is very big business here. A report in the Bangkok Post this morning even suggested that flowers on sale in Thailand on this day are among the most expensive in the world. People are also queuing up to have their marriage registered on this auspicious day. In Bangkok the most popular district is Bang Rak which translates as Village of Love. They even get married in unusual situations in Thailand on this day; like underwater, while abseiling and also on elephant back. Students at school also join in with celebrations on this day. While students at high school may give roses to their sweetheart, the younger students put stickers on the shirts of their friends. The most popular sticker are heart shaped ones.
