Bangkok is in the Top 10 Locations for Instagram 2014

Instagram has just released their Top 10 list of most tagged locations for 2014.  You may remember that last year Thailand had the most photographed location in the world on Instagram. Not surprising as the country not only has millions of Instgram users, but the Thais themselves love taking selfies and uploading them to social media. Unfortunately, the rest of the world is now catching up with us. The Number 1 spot was given to Disneyland in California. This meant, Bangkok’s favourite haunt, Siam Pragon has slipped down to fourth place. Suvarnabhumi Airport has also dropped out of the Top 10. Maybe next year we can actually get a tourist attraction in the top 10 instead of a shopping mall and an airport.

  1. Disneyland, Anaheim, California
  2. Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles, California
  3. Times Square, New York, New York
  4. Siam Paragon (สยามพารากอน) shopping mall, Bangkok, Thailand
  5. Gorky Park, Moscow, Russia
  6. Musée du Louvre, Paris, France
  7. Red Square, Moscow, Russia
  8. Madison Square Garden, New York, New York
  9. Yankee Stadium, New York, New York
  10. The Dubai Mall, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

    Dear Richard,

I saw one of your articles about the scouts in Thailand, and then more articles about this country and it is very interesting!

I am a member of the Scouts and Guides of France, and with my team of three girls and two boys, we would like to go to Thailand in the summer 2015.
We are 5 young persons of 18 years old and every year we do some voluntary work in France. This year the project is to do some voluntary services in a foreign country. We can do any kind of voluntary service, like renovation work: painting, animation, teaching French or English or mathematics. The idea is to discover another country, another civilization, another way of life; to meet other people, to give some of our time to help others, and at the same time visit the country. Moreover, we don’t have plenty of money, we don’t have full-time work because we are all students; so since last year we started to do services for people near us in exchange for a little money, to collect enough money to do this project of going in a foreign country and helping people over there.
We would come for around three or four weeks and during this time we would like to live with the people we are helping and visit. But also, we would love to meet the scouts of this country!

So, with my team, we would really like to go to Thailand; because it seems to be a wonderful country and we would like to get to know it. We are more interested in doing some voluntary services with children over there, and therefore we are looking for a partner who can put us in contact with a school, an orphanage, a village or any association who needs help for two weeks.

I hope you can help us in finding an association or to contact the scouts of Thailand please?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon.

    Yours sincerely,

    Elaine Tapie,
    Scouts and Guide of France,
    Vallée de Chevreuse, Paris
    France

Scouting in Thailand is different to other countries as it is part of the school curriculum. I am afraid I cannot help you with any volunteer work. However, if you want to visit our school on a Scout day you are more than welcome.
