20,000 Cyclists Join Bangkok Car Free Day 2013
The fifth annual Car Free Day took place in Bangkok on Sunday. An estimated 20,000 cyclists, wearing the colours of the Thai national flag, took part in a rally that went from Sanam Luang to Central World. Bangkok Governor Sukhumbhand Paribatra presided over the opening ceremony and is seen here cycling past the Grand Palace. The aim of the event was to encourage people to look for alternative methods of transport. Whether it be public transport, cycling or even walking. The Bangkok Governor said that there are plans to make the Car Free Day a regular monthly event in Bangkok. He says they also aim to extend the bicycle routes and make more secure parking for bicycles at malls and mass transit stations.
