“Hormones” is a TV Series about Thai Teenagers

hormones

One of the most popular TV series coming out of Thailand at the moment is Hormones. In many ways it is very similar to the UK hit series Skins which followed the lives of a group of teenagers. Its controversial storyline explores issues such as adolescent sexuality, substance abuse and the pressures of high school life. It is doubtful if the Thai version will ever go as far as the UK series, in Thailand they blur out images of students smoking cigarettes, but they have already covered subjects such as sex at school and sexual orientation.

The show is produced by GTH and is directed by Songyos Sugmakanan who made a movie of the same name back in 2008. It has been hugely successful despite the fact that it is not being shown on free terrestrial TV. You can watch it on GMM One TV channel via satellite every week or for free on the GMM Youtube channel. Episode 1 has only been up a month and has already had over three million views.  The following are the links on youtube of all of the episodes so far:

Hormones The Series has been talk of the town here in Manila, Philippines by the teenagers. Some of the Filipinos teenagers expressed their emotions and comments about this Thai tv series via twitter and blogs. We watched it via You Tube because it has English subtitle so that we can understand it.

I just was amazed with this Thai movies, esp in this series. People/casts in the Thai films/series, they all have iPhones/iMac. I liked Thai’s school uniform, it was just so cute. This series is telling me more about Thai teens. Although it’s more on adolescent sexuality, it’s not even a big deal nowadays worldwide because some teens now are getting liberated. Cheers for Thai films! Greetings from Davao, Philippines 🙂

I like the series and I’ve seen every episode so far. It’s edgy and dramatic for Thai teen life without being over the top like some Thai soaps. I also watch it so that I am constantly immersed in Thai language. Many people have learned English by watching English and American TV so I’m trying to do the same by watching Thai TV.
