New Garbage Bins for Bangkok

Have you seen these new garbage bins that have been appearing around Bangkok in the last few weeks. Apparently 35,000 of them have been bought at a cost of 70 million Baht. That works out at 2,000 Baht ($68) each. I’m not sure but I think you can buy for a lot cheaper than this at Big C. Obviously someone made some money on this. What do you think? Are they worth 2,000 Baht each?

The stuff from Big-C is very poor quality plastic and will degrade and crack quickly outside especially in direct sunlight./If/ these are made of higher quality UV-resistant materials such as resin, then yes I can see 2k.
(NB: I did italicize /If/]
The big question is how many will be stolen – the outer portion, turned upside-down with a bit of mesh, might make a good chicken coop…
I think this country is corrupt from the top down, and what is even more upsetting is the fact that it seems to be completely acceptable. Of course the people who really suffer are the ones at the bottom of the social ladder who need government services and funding more than anyone. The irony being that people here seem to not use bins anyway. Bangkok is the dirtiest city in South East Asia by a long stretch.
