Motorcyclists on the Sidewalk
If you are ever on holiday in Bangkok, you need to know, as a pedestrian, that you don’t have exclusive rights to the sidewalk. Quite often it is used as an extra lane for motorcyclists. As well as this danger, you need to keep your eye open for broken manhole covers and potholes. On top of this you might find your way blocked by street vendors and parked cars. Never a dull moment in Bangkok.

I’ve actually gone out of my way to annoy these people myself. Walking down sukhumvit one time, I just quikly dragged a bench and put it in the way of blocking traffic. It was funny seeing how none of them would get off the bike to push the bench out of the way, and they had their own little traffic on the sidewalk.
This is so illegal. If caught by police the fine is THB 1,000.
Of course, as policemen are corrupted; nobody enforces the law.
