Following on from the launch of Thailand’s first virtual shelf at ARL Phyathai Station in Bangkok, Big C have now gone a step further by launching Asia’s first “Moving Virtual Store”. In Bangkok, a BTS skytrain has been fitted with QR codes on handgrips and the body of the train is wrapped as a Big C store. Mr. Kudatara Nagaviroj, Director of Corporate Affairs of Big C Supercenter PCL, reveals that “after Big C launched a fully-integrated online shopping platform consisting of smart phone application, QR code, website, call center 1756 and Thailand’s first virtual shelves in October 2012, the company is now seeing 336% growth in online sales, threefold increase in online customer traffic, and 63,000 application downloads.” Their next step is to bring virtual stores into residential areas, particularly condominiums, to build consumer awareness, induce trials and increase their online shopping outlets.
Have you ever used these virtual stores to buy goods with your smartphone? Sounds like a cool idea, but isn’t it easier to just buy on their website?
