Mass Alms Giving on Soi Thonglor on Sunday
In celebration of the 2,600th anniversary of the Lord Buddha’s Enlightenment, and also in support of 323 temples in the southern provinces of Thailand, there will be a mass alms giving on Sunday 23rd December 2012 in Bangkok. This will take place from 5:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on Soi Thonglor, Sukhumwit 55. Everyone is welcome to join or even to just observe and take pictures. People taking part will wear white. The first hour is usually taken up with chanting and a sermon. The mass alms giving comes at the end. Over 2,500 monks are expected to attend this event.
As always thanks for the heads-up. I was there just past 6 am and it sure looked quite impressive. Although with this amount of food given to the monks it is no wonder that obesity is becoming quite a problem. I hope though that some of it is given to homeless people / people in need.
Anyway, here are my pictures of this event:

Thanks for the link. Theories release says all donated items will be sent to temples in the Deep South where it is too dangerous for monks to go out on alms rounds
