Monsoon Winds Blow Rubbish onto Hua Hin Beaches

Due to the public holiday on Tuesday, a lot of people decided to make Monday a holiday and so therefore have a long four-day weekend. One of the most popular destinations is the beach in Hua Hin. However, quite a few Thais have been tweeting pictures like this one. Khun @icyremy said he was puzzled about how dirty the beaches have become (ทำไมชายหาดหัวหินเต็มไปด้วยขยะ). This is actually a relatively clean stretch of beach. I have seen recent pictures of Hua Hin that were far worse that this. However, no need to panic. This is only a temporary phenomenon caused by monsoon winds. Between late October and early November every year, the southwest monsoon blows rubbish from Chonburi and Pattaya across the Gulf of Thailand to the more pristine beaches of Hua Hin and Cha-am. Municipal workers are busy trying to clean this up but high tides bring more every day. This problem usually lasts only a couple of weeks. Hopefully it should be back to normal soon. In the meantime, if you are in Pattaya, you can help by not throwing rubbish into the sea!
