New Sprinter Trains for Thailand
I have always loved taking long train trips. My favourite was seven days on the Trans Siberian Express. Other good ones include across China and India. I must admit that I have only done a few train trips in Thailand. The last time was from Wong Wian Yai to Samut Songkhram. An enjoyable route but not the best of rolling stock. This is one complaint I have often seen in the newspapers. Many people have said that it is time for Thailand to upgrade its rail network. Then today I spotted these pictures on the Train Lism (รถไฟลิซึ่ม) Facebook page. It shows a new Sprinter train that recently ran on the Makkasan to Nakhon Ratchasima route. Hopefully there are more to come. If so, I might even go back to taking train trips.
Interesting that they kept the “sprinter” name (which was the original British Rail term for those units).

Except that these Sprinter trains are not new, but are in fact over 20 years old.

Fair enough, they’ve given them a refurbishment, probably long overdue though.
I will go to taking this train on my next trip to Korat!
Sounds good. One question, though – why on earth have the seats in the picture still got plastic shrink wrapping on them!? It seems to be a Thai obsession not to remove this kind of thing! 🙂
You are right there!
