Hit and Run Accident Kills Policeman
The big story on social media yesterday was the hit and run accident in Bangkok that killed a policeman on duty. The incident happened at about 5:30 a.m. on Sukhumwit Soi 47. A hit and run doesn’t normally get so much exposure but the whole event played out live on social media. As you can see from this picture, the car that hit the policeman left a trail of engine oil that led the police and media to this house on Sukhumwit Soi 53. There were soon dozens of news media camped outside the house.
At first the police were refused entry as the security guard said that the owner wasn’t at home. Media interest picked up when they learned that the family involved were the founders of the Red Bull empire. Finally, after an hour or so of negotiations, the grandson surrendered to the police. He was taken into custody and given a breathalyser which he apparently passed. He was then later let out on a bail of 500,000 Baht. What became more interesting is that the lead detective was caught trying to encourage someone else to stand as a scapegoat for the grandson by pretending he was the driver. This is going to be an interesting story to follow.
