The prestigious Phuket King’s Cup Regatta 2016 started at the weekend and continues until 10 December. More than 1,000 sailors from around the world have come to Thailand to compete in this event which is now in its 30th year. Many of the sailors are repeat competitors and the event has become more like a big family reunion. Of particular note is the work that has been done over the last six years to encourage Thai youngsters to take up sailing. Free lessons are held during the school holidays every year. The following are some of the photos that I tweeted live during my trip.

This morning I'm on a boat to take photos of the 30th Phuket Regatta. Good wind for the yachts. Should be a good race pic.twitter.com/trGvAkJb31— Richard Barrow (@RichardBarrow) December 5, 2016
Good morning from Kata Beach in Phuket. It looks like it will be another dry day. The sun is trying its best to break through the cloud pic.twitter.com/8fnjn33y89— Richard Barrow (@RichardBarrow) December 6, 2016
Phuket Regatta is much more exciting for me today as closer to the action. But our boat is rocking so much it's difficult to get steady shot pic.twitter.com/1UsNaE55EA— Richard Barrow (@RichardBarrow) December 6, 2016
I'm suffering badly from sea sickness, I threw up 4 times so far & I'm soaked from head to toe but I think I may have a couple of good pics pic.twitter.com/PuwxoCST5F— Richard Barrow (@RichardBarrow) December 6, 2016
