Tropical Storm Pabuk to hit Thailand 3-5 January 2019

UPDATED AT 1:35 PM ON SATURDAY 5TH JANUARY: The following are the latest updates about Tropical Storm Pabuk that is expected to hit Southern Thailand between 3rd and 5th January 2019. These are the affected areas:

At 4.00 a.m. on 5 January 2019, tropical storm “PABUK” over Ao Luek, Krabi or at latitude 8.5 degree north, longitude 98.7 degree east has maximum sustained wind is 65km/hr. The storm is moving west-northwest at a speed of 10 km/hr. It is expected to move to Andaman Sea by today (5 Jan 2019). This will affect the South with widespread rainfalls, and torrential downpours are possible much of Phetchaburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Nakhon Si Thammarart, Ranong, Phangnga, Phuket and Krabi. People should beware of the severe conditions that cause forest runoffs and flash floods especially over tonight. The strong winds are forecast with waves up to 3-5 meters high in the Gulf and 2-3 meters high in the Andaman Sea. All ships keep ashore a few days. People in the Gulf should be aware of inshore surges.

UPDATES ON CLOSURES AND CANCELLATIONS:

Surat Thani airport will be closed from 4pm on Friday until 12pm on Saturday.

Nakhon Si Thammarat Airport will be closed on Friday 4th January and and won’t now open until Saturday at 12pm.

Mu Ko Similan National Marine Park and Mu Ko Surin National Marine Park in Phang Nga will be closed during at least 4-5 January.

Bangkok Airways has CANCELLED all flights to and from Koh Samui on Friday 4th January. Call the Assistance Center on 02-270-6698 for reservation assistance and flight status updates. They re-open on Saturday.

Raja Ferry Port, operator of boats to Koh Samui, has announced the following:

  • 3 January: 10:30pm ferry cancelled
  • 4 January: All services cancelled
  • 5 January: Cancelled all service from 5am-10am

Seatran Ferry and Seatran Discovery, that operate between the mainland and Koh Samui, will cease all services on the afternoon of 3rd January. The last ferry will leave Donsak at 1pm. No tickets will be sold for 4-5 January. Call 077-950559. First boat to leave will be mid-afternoon on Saturday.

Ang Thong National Marine Park, which includes 42 islands in the Gulf of Thailand, will be CLOSED to everyone from 3-5 January due to Tropical storm “Pabuk”.

    Ferries from Koh Lipe to the mainland got also cancelled now. Not funny considering we have to get to Bangkok for flight back home. Good, we have insurance , hope it will work…

    I am landing in Phuket on the 9th of January 2019 in the evening, hope that the storm would have passed and that tourist services and attractions would have resumed business as usual.
