Bangkok Clean Air Bicycle Campaign

bangkok clean air

The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration has launched a new campaign to raise public awareness of air pollution and to encourage people to take an interest in riding bicycles. Under this campaign, a bike parade travelled from Nongbon Water Sports Center through Chalerm Prakiat Rama 9 Road to Si Udom Intersection before returning to the starting point, totaling a distance of 12 kilometers.

Bangkok Deputy Governor Jumpol Sumpaopol said that apart from minimizing carbon dioxide emission and alleviating global warming, cycling can also bring down energy consumption and transportation costs while improving people’s health. He therefore invited everyone to incorporate cycling into their daily life due to its many benefits.

Great. Fully support it but when will Bangkok do something about its public buses and the really disgraceful spewing of black smoke as they move around the city, leaving people covering their mouths and gasping for breath. Riding a bike in the city- because of theses buses – is not fun.

Richard , I am not familiar with the area you speak of , but I hasten to add riding a bike in BKK is not very healthy , unless you wear a suit of armour & a gas-mask .
