New Smartphone App for Reporting Bangkok Taxis

(null)

Over the last year there has been a few smartphone apps released that help people report taxis to the authorities. I’m sure we have all faced similar problems with taxis in Bangkok. Refusing to take you to your destination, not turning on meter, and unsafe driving are just a few of the most common complaints. The problem with these 3rd party apps is that we don’t know if the relevant authorities will ever see our report. But that has now changed as the Department of Land Transport have just released their own smartphone app for iOS and Android.

To use the “DLT Check in” app is very simple. As you can see, it’s also bilingual which is good news for expats and tourists. After downloading the app you need to register your telephone number which is quick and easy. Then type in the License plate of the taxi or take a photo of the plate on the inside door. Next you can rate the taxi and the driver and also leave a comment. The location of your taxi is also noted. Of course, you don’t have to use the app to just report bad taxis. You can also comment on a good taxi like the one I’m in at the moment.

I experience a really bad encounter with a meter taxi. He’s series number is 010489 Was told that he will charge me by taximeter because it was a short distance from Siam Paragon to Sukhumvit Soi 20. However when we started the journey approximately 5 minutes later on the main road he change his statements in the taxi saying that he won’t charge us meter and instead a fixed fare of 300 baht. What a rip off! He further went on to allow us to bargain? (wth) It was like in the middle of we dont know where as we are foreigners (not sure whether can get another taxi). This is really unethical and rude. From thailand being a country i love, become so alienated to me. As a tourist i feel embarrassed that this thing is happening in Thailand theres so much to its culture and taxi drivers are so crucial because they are probably the first people that approach tourist and this is the treatment we received. I’m so dissapointed.

This app doesn’t exist anymore. Hasn’t for over a year. It was likely flooded with complaints, staff were overworked and complaints ignored before it folded under the weight of said complaints.

Got on to taxi at Chong Nonsi BRT station.8.00 pm 31/1/18.  Wanted to goto Surawong street  Amara hotel    only 5 mins ride away, he took me around  refused to use meter, and agreessively said he dont know where the road is. I wanted to get off, he wanted 100baht.I paid and ran to a nearby police hut.,in case he murders me. I ended walking to hotel 15 mins away.  Taxi no is 3127. (color mix red or brown with yellow   not sure at night) . BKK authority should tame these Taxi Thugs.  BAD for Thai image!!!!!!! or we won’t come to Thailand anymore

I find I actually tip taxis who put the meter straight on almost as much as some of them would ask for a non meter journey! I normally just refuse the journey and get out!

This app doesnt work and i feel like no one wants the change the stubourness of rude thai unprofessional taxi drivers. Their should be a new law and standard for the taxi drivers. So.e are even unequiped to be driving. Cant anyone do something about this?? Instead making a usless app just to fantisize that you are fixing the problem, actually clean the system so people can stop complaining. Jesus.

Any idea if this app is still functioning and officials are acting on reports? I feel like I am wasting my time.

    Dear Richard,
Today I used this app to complain about a taxi asking 200 baht from Hualampong station to sukhumvit soi 16. He refused to use meter. Other taxi used meter and 80 baht. 2x my email was returned with message from outlook as undeliverable. Address [email protected]. Do you know if this app is still working? Thanks, Frits Wille
