Burmese for Beginners App for iOS and Android
The latest popular destination in South East Asia is Myanmar which is now opening up to world tourism. It’s still early days but there has been a lot of interest in tourists in visiting this country. If you are someone visiting for a short time or someone who is investing a more long term interest, then the Burmese for Beginners app should be your top choice for learning the language. It is developed by the people who brought you the widely popular Thai for Beginners series. They already have a book called Burmese for Beginners and this new app nicely complements it. Click on any words or phrases and you get to hear a native speaker. That is the best and only way to learn a foreign language.
Key Features of the Burmese for Beginners App:
- Works on all Apple iOS and Android devices that support GooglePlay
- This app teaches the language skills of speaking, listening and reading Burmese
- Hear a native Burmese person speak each Burmese phrase
- Listen to a phrase over and over until you can say it correctly. Just click on it
- Paiboon’s system of transliteration shows how to pronounce the Burmese words using Romanized letters until you are able to read the Burmese script
- Test your ability to hear and understand Burmese with the built-in interactive exercises
- You’ll find many opportunities to practice your Burmese language lessons on your mobile device

I was lucky enough to spend a summer there when I was fifteen… I desperately need a refresher course and a revisit to this magical country
So I can navigate my way to some beautiful, untouched Burmese beaches!
I’d love to learn Burmese, as I’m there all of the time and having lived in Thailand for many years, I know what a difference it makes in breaking down barriers. Having a basic grounding in the home language is polite, and shows commitment to understanding local culture and sensibilities.
My friend is teaching in Burma now and loves it. Thinking if going for a visit, maybe even changing countries.
We have a project to take cinema screens through villages in Myanmar, starting next year. We will be screening educational content as well as entertaining media sourced from Youtube etc. Would be great for our staff to start learning Burmese before the project launches.
I want to volunteer as a teacher at a school in Myanmar. Even a basic grasp of the language would be useful.
We going to asean and i love to learn burmese.its will great i can learn on my i phone anywhere any time.
I am currently a medical student, and in my area we have a lot of recently-arrived Burmese speaking refugees, and I would love to have Burmese for Beginners to further my Burmese speaking ability to be able to better meet the medical needs of the wonderful, friendly Burmese people around me. It would be a delight to win a copy of Burmese for Beginners, thank you for considering me!
I have been learning Thai with many Paiboon books for 4 years . Now I live in thailand and want to explore Myanmar
I travel frequently to Myanmar and know many Burmese people. I learned Thai language also with Paiboon and already have their Thai app. So i think it is a good way to learn and start to learn more about this country.
I plan on traveling in Northern Myanmar this winter. This app would be very helpful. Thanks for all the info you share. I found your posts to be vital in staying safe and informed as I traveled in Thailand during the unrest this past winter.
Heading to Myanmar in a few weeks and am so excited to be going. As a true beginner in Burmese this app would be an incredible tool. Everyone says the Burmese people are truly wonderful and I’d love to be able to exchange words in their language.
I used to live in Myanmar and would live to learn more Burmese!
i very much agree with juan & would also like to improve my language skills as i know a family over there quite well, that i plan to visit again later this year 🙂
Hey Mr. Barrow! I’ve been following you for as long as I’ve been on Twitter and I love looking at your pictures as well as getting real-time Thai news from you. I want to win the Burmese for Beginners app so I can read original Burmese sources, not only the ones translated into English. I wrote my senior thesis on Myanmar and I currently try to access real-time news from Myanmar for work, so this app would be beyond helpful. Thanks for considering my entry and keep up the awesome tweets!
Would love to learn Burmese because I believe is the language of some of the most lovely people in Southeast Asia.
