Dog Food Scam at a Thai Temple
I don’t know about you, but I found this pretty distasteful. The sign is asking for money to buy this dog some food. A 20 Baht note had been pinned to a container and there was about 60 Baht inside. I cannot say it is a scam for sure but it is highly likely. Do you really think that this money will be used to buy food for the dog? More likely it will be used to buy beer by the person who put it there.
I found this dog cage out in the mid-day heat at Wat Intharawihan in Bangkok. It is a place known to harbour scammers. People often abandon dogs at temples but they are given leftover food by the monks. There is no reason to do this. The picture above are of three dogs that I spotted nearby. Maybe they are waiting their turn to be put in the cage.
What do you think? Is this a scam? Even if it is not, surely this is not the right way to go about getting food for these dogs.
The important question to ask would be – Are the dogs in real distress and are they in need of extra support? After viewing the picture of the three dogs relaxing at the wat, I would query this idea. I’ve seen more than my fair share of under-nourished and bony dogs in ‘The Kingdom’ that require more help. The lay-abouts in your picture come across as the residents of a five star accommodation and in no need of extra sustenance when compared to some of their less fortunate brethren.
Our whole family fell for 4 scams since we have been here. There are 99.9% of wonderful Thai people out there.
Please send some of them to Phuket.
Got to love those wonderful Buddhists.
Thailand. Land of hypocritical heartless scammers.
