The Ladies of Songkran 2013

If you appreciate art then you might like to visit this exhibition at ARDEL Gallery of Modern Art about Nang Songkran 2013. The website of the Thai Culture Ministry did have artwork like this but they were pressured to remove them as they were “indecent”. What do you think? Should the ministry have kept the artwork on their website?

The only reason the images were removed from the website was because of the knee-jerk reaction to 3 girls who were briefly dancing topless during Songkran a few years ago. There was huge moral uproar from the culture ministry over it saying how there was no place for semi-nudity during songkran and how it went against the moral code of celebrations blah blah. Then when they realised that their own website had pictures depicting topless women celebrating Songkran they quickly removed them to try and minimise the hypocritical viewpoint.

It amazes me that there can be such uproar over such trivial things here when you can walk down Silom or Sukhumvit road any day of the year and pick up a 15 inch dildo off a street stall.
