Expensive Parking for Bicycles at Fortune Town

The other week I tweeted some pictures of a parking lot for bicycles in front of Fortune Town. I was quite impressed. I was then informed that there was more to come. Fortune Town had apparently announced that they will be bicycle friendly and that more facilities were to come. Then this afternoon I spotted this picture on twitter. Apparently it is the new bicycle parking at Fortune Town. According to the tweet, this parking area, which is open 6am-9pm, will cost cyclists 20 Baht! What exactly you get for that amount is not clear. I think I would rather chain my bike to a tree or lamp post. What do you think? Is it worth it?

It’s strange they even dare to ask for money to park your bicycle at FT shopping mall. Most shopping malls in Bangkok have free parking for cars (at least a couple of hours).
On the other hand, if they rented out the space to food-stalls……..

    Bangkok always amazes me

A few weeks ago I was denied access in /pushing/ my bike along the frontage of FT. Security forced me to walk the bike along the pavement which is less than a metre wide in places, to get to the parking area. It was free then, but the attitude of security meant I went and bought 28,000baht worth of photo-equipment from MBK instead – so that was expensive… for Fortune Town.

Paradise Mall or Srinakarindra also object to you parking a bike on the public pavement outside – I don’t shop there any more either.
