Car Boot Sale at the British Club in Bangkok on Sunday

carbootsale

One of the most popular weekend activities for people in the UK is attending Car Boot Sales. These are opportunities for ordinary people to clear out unwanted items in their house and sell them to the public from the back of the car. Hence the name “car boot sale”. Now it looks like Car Boot Sales are coming to Thailand as the British Club in Bangkok will be holding theirs on the back lawn on Sunday 20th January 2013. The sale is open from 2:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Entrance is free but there is a 100 Baht fee if you want to rent a table. The British Club is at 189 Suriwongse Road, Bangrak. Entry is via Silom Soi 18, adjacent to the Narai Hotel. See map.

More information can be found on The British Club Bangkok Facebook Page.

Alright, I was there yesterday, and the security guard told me that it was on Sunday. (At least that’s what I understood from words such as “Phoong Nee”, and “Wan AhThit”.

Looks like the Poster was correct after all.

But thanks for the headsup all the same. See you all there later today

        Hey, no problem.

However, the lawn sale itself was rather disappointing.
And it is/was NOT free. The semi-prissy-flamboyant-katoey-gatekeeper insisted that a non-Club member MUST pay a mandatory 50Baht per person just to “walk on the grass” to look at the 15 or so stalls. I replied that I was NOT setting up a stall (like what you wrote above). But the semi-prissy-flamboyant-katoey-gatekeeper would hear nothing of it. Held out his partially manicured hand, and waited for payment.

Not wanting to cause undue harm to “lesser mortals”, nor create a scene, I reluctantly paid.
And in less than 5 minutes, I was done looking through all the 15 stalls.

On the brighter side, I had a much better time at the Neilson Hays Library next door, and a nice dinner on Soi 20.

Quick Question… the poster reads the 20th Jan 2013. And that means Sunday. Is it on both Sat and Sunday, or just on Sunday?

    Thanx
