Samsung Galaxy Camera on Sale in Thailand for 16,900 Baht

People always joke that I go to events with a high powered camera around my neck with long expensive lenses, but more often than not, I am using my iPhone to take pictures. As we know, the phone camera is alright, but it is no way as near the quality of compact cameras, let alone the big DSLR cameras. So, why do I keep using the iPhone as my main camera? The easy answer is connectivity. I want to take pictures and share it immediately on social media such as Twitter and Facebook. If only the big cameras could do this too.

Well, it now looks like that we might be going that direction after all. The Samsung Galaxy Camera has just been released in Thailand for 16,900 Baht. It is basically a cross between an Android phone and a compact camera. It has a 16 megapixel sensor and a 21x zoom. It has built-in WiFi as well as a SIM card slot. You can save pictures onto a nicroSD card as normal but also back-up onto the cloud. Like smartphones, you can edit pictures and upload them onto social media.

For me this is very tempting though the price is at the top-end of what I would want to pay. I don’t really need a camera with a built-in Micro SIM slot as I can use my iPhone to create a hotspot. They could have done like Apple’s iPad and come out with a cheaper version which is just WiFi. Battery life also seems on the low side which could mean having to charge every night or at least carry around spare batteries. I will probably skip this as it is first generation, but it is something I definately want to keep an eye on. If only my Canon DSLR was powered by Android!

Richard, did you get one in the end? Would love to know what your opinion on it is – and the service from the shop should that apply.

Which shop did you go to, if any?
