Shrimps Drying in the Sun

This is something that we smelled a long time before we saw it. This pink substance spread out on the ground is shrimp drying in the sun. I don’t mind eating shrimp, but the smell here was pretty strong. I wonder how long it takes to dry. It is often used in Thai cooking such as som tam and pad thai. It is also made into a spicy shrimp paste.
