Grand Opening for Asiatique & Mega Bangna shopping malls in Bangkok

I just received my invitation for the Grand Opening of “Asiatique The Waterfront”, which will take place this Friday 27th April 2012. This is a new kind of shopping experience for Bangkok that combines more than 1,000 shops with fine dining, extravagant shows and a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River. The location used to be the pier for the East Asiatic Company and it has been renovated to become what they boast to be “Bangkok’s trendiest landmark”. Time will tell on that, but as a travel blogger, it is exciting for me to see that the Louis Puppet Theater has found a home here. They will be performing at the opening ceremony this weekend. This will also be the home for the Calypso Bangkok Theater. Asiatique The Waterfront will be open from 5 p.m. to midnight. It is on Charoenkrung Road to the south of BTS Saphan Taksin. If you come by skytrain there is apparently a free shuttle boat service from the pier.

Another shopping mall having a grand opening soon is MEGAbanga. I have been watching this massive low-rise shopping complex go up with interest as it is in my neighbourhood. It is on the corner of two major highways, Bang Na-Trad and the Outer Ring Road. IKEA has already opened and the mall itself is having its Grand Opening on 3-6 May 2012 with a Grand Celebration scheduled for 5 May 2012. The shopping complex is being developed by the local joint venture between Siam Future Development, a subsidiary of Major Cineplex Group, and the local subsidiary of Singapore-based Ikano, which holds the franchise rights for Ikea home-furnishing stores in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. It will boast some of the biggest stores in Thailand. If you don’t drive, the easiest access is via skytrain as there will be a free shuttle bus service from BTS Udomsuk.

I will post further information about these places as and when I receive it on www.ThaiTravelBlogs.com. As I will also be there on the opening days you can follow me on Twitter @RichardBarrow for some live pictures.

Walking out of that airport at night and cichtang a taxi is always ridiculously overpriced . If i go to Bkk ill get a bus if im alone, but if Pattaya is my choice Ill get a cheap taxi by just walking out the airport turn left in traffic flow direction and onto the main highway, Taxi drivers and Police will follow u shouting complete shit that I usually just ignore and keep walking After 200 metres yr out their zone it seems because who ever follows usually turns back, then every so often someone will shout taxi Of course they are not genuine taxi drivers but I always find them alot more fun and alot cheaper.I get Pattaya journey for 500-600baht in taxi doing it this way if not it costs 1,500 2,000 in airport
