Day Three of the Water Fights! Print E-mail
Saturday, 16 April 2005

We have now just had three full days of waterfights. You wouldn't believe that we have just come out of one of the worst droughts in living memory. Water, water everywhere. Today I am going to try and give you a better idea of the different ways people are out enjoying themselves.

This is a shot of the pickup trucks I talked about before. They are throwing buckets of water at pedestrians and other rival pickups that pass by on the other side of the road. In this picture you can see that there is an endless stream of pickup trucks.

Another group of people are roaming the streets waiting to ambush any vehicle that slows down. See that guy in the blue shirt? He is trying to dodge the traffic as he runs towards that girl in the red shirt. In his left hand he is holding a bag of wet paste to smear on her face.

The girls on the back of this motorcycle are being attacked by at least five guys. There is not a lot they can do about it.

Some of these guys also jump up onto pickup trucks that slow down. You can see that these girls are having fun trying to stop the boys smearing their faces with wet powder.

My final shot for today shows a guy taking on the role of policeman. He is trying to get the pickup trucks and motorcycles to stop. Notice also the kids that have coloured their hair. Summer holidays is a good opportunity for the kids to go wild as the teachers are so strict with them while at school.

The three days of Songkran are now over. However, as these holidays are part of a very long weekend, the water fights might go on for a bit longer. But, I reckon they will start slowing down tomorrow.

Amazing Thailand

Amphawa Floating Market

Unlike the famous market at Damnoen Saduak, this one does not start to get going until the late afternoon. Very good news for late risers. It also means you can visit the nearby park first before finishing your day with a meal at the floating market.
