Bamboo Scaffolding Print E-mail
Sunday, 13 March 2005

The above picture is another good example of how an approach to the same job is done differently. Here in Thailand, as well as much of Asia, they use bamboo when constructing scaffolds. These are strong, lightweight and flexible. Actually quite perfect for this kind of job and not as flimsy as you might think. When they built the six storey building at school it was all done with bamboo. They even use bamboo for skyscrapers. One big advantage of using bamboo is that it is grown locally! But, it is also important from a time point of view. It is not only quick to put up, but also to pull down too. The scaffold in the above picture was only up for a couple of days. By the next evening the scaffolding had disappeared and the block had been freshly painted.

Then, at the far end you will find that the train tracks double as a market! It all seemed to good to be true and I had to take this journey before it became a thing of the past.
