Facebook App for Watching Thai TV for Free

I often get emails from people asking how they can watch Thai TV on the Internet. There are quite a few websites that give you this service, but as I know many people use Facebook I thought I would point out this new app. It is called KirzTV and you can install onto your Facebook page by clicking on the link. While installing it asks permission to access your data and also to post onto your page. If you don’t like this kind of thing, then just change the setting so that only you see the posts. At present there…

Update for Google Maps Thailand

Hot on the heels to the major update to Google Street View that added seven new provinces, comes the news on the Google blog that they have just added today “more comprehensive and accurate maps for Thailand”. The updated map for Thailand now provides more comprehensive information about the Bangkok city center. So next time you happen to find yourself needing to cross the Chao Phraya River, you’ll be able to see that many ferry routes across the river are now mapped in greater detail, with route names shown and piers clearly marked. You can also pinpoint nearby points of…

Major Update for Google Street View in Thailand

Google Thailand announced today that they have done a major update for Street View. According to a tweet this morning, they said that “7 new provinces just went live on Street View in Thailand”. These include Pattaya, Chon Buri, Bang Lamung, Sattahip, Bo Thong and other locations in Thailand. Street View was launched in Thailand just one year ago (see my original report).  To see Street View in action, just visit maps.google.co.th and to the left of the screen you will see a little man above the zoom control. Drag him onto the map and you will see blue lines like below. This tells…

British Tourist Wearing a Mankini in Chiang Mai Shocks Thai Netizens

Every year during Songkran, there is always “outrage” about pictures and videos of Thai girls or ladyboys dancing topless in the street. This year there has only been a few so far. But the picture that has raised the most eyebrows is of a British tourist wearing a mankini at a Songkran event in Chiang Mai. I think dozens of pictures have already been posted on social media of “Borat in Thailand”. This morning I translated a tweet from the Thai media claiming that the police will arrest anyone dressed in a mankini. Up until now his identity has been…

Where my Twitter Followers Come From

It’s always interesting to know where people come from who read my blogs or follow me on Facebook or Twitter. This map above, produced on the twocation.com website, shows where my @RichardBarrow Twitter followers come from. According to their website, most of my twitter followers live in Thailand (57.6%), UK (9.8%), US (5.9%), Australia (2%), Hong Kong (2%) and India, Indonesia & Sweden (1.6%). So, that must means that nearly 13,000 of my followers are either expats or Thais living in Thailand. Good to know. BufferFacebook

Video of Farang Singing in Thai Going Viral on YouTube

Every now and then a video is released on YouTube that deserves to go viral. This is such a video. The cute video features Maggie Rosenberg, a farang who says she cannot speak Thai but amazingly she can sing it very well. Several people sent me links yesterday and I see that today that the number of views has already started to skyrocket. Check out their YouTube channel for more songs as well as their Facebook Page.
