Four Free Movies at the River City Bangkok Film Club in March 2018

The popular River City Bangkok Film Club returns in March with four new exciting movies of diverse styles and genres by four dynamic directors from four different countries. The award-winning movies are from Poland, Switzerland, Greece and Mexico. The film screenings are supported by the respective embassies, who will serve drinks & snacks after the screenings. The Film Club takes place in Room 201 (Second Floor), at River City Bangkok. Start time is at 4:00 pm. The movies are free but you are advised to reserve your seat in advance by contacting [email protected].

‘VINCI’, POLAND, Directed by Juliusz Machulski.
Saturday, 10 March at 4.00 pm

The Opening Film of 2018, is a thriller, comedy, drama, all rolled into one, centering around the planned heist of a major painting of Leonardo Da Vinci! But things change, when the protagonists’ plans and their motives change. The racy action, tension, confusion, never stop, till the end.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Poland, HE Waldemar Dubaniowski, will introduce the film. The Embassy of Poland will serve Drinks and Snacks, after the screening.

‘MY LIFE AS A ZUCCHINI (MA VIE DE COURGETTE)’, SWITZERLAND, Directed by Claude Barras.

This is the first time the RCB Film Club is screening an animation film, but this moving and memorable tale about abandoned children and their longing for love, has moved critics and audiences around the world. In fact, the movie was nominated for an Academy Award in the category ‘Best Animated Feature Film’ in 2017.

The Ambassador of the Embassy of Switzerland, HE Ivo Sieber, will introduce the film. The Embassy of Switzerland will serve Drinks and Snacks, after the screening.

‘INCLUDE WOMEN OUT’, GREECE, Directed by Vangelis Seitanidis.
Saturday, 24 March at 4.00 pm

This is a road-movie, where two good friends- a happy-go-lucky civil servant and a depressed businessman- venture out to search for a ‘school-beauty’ who they both had chased, and who has supposedly joined a convent. They have varied adventures and many verbal bantering, where their personal angst and the social conflicts of Greece, provide much food for thought.

The Ambassador of the Embassy of Greece, HE Pericles Boutos, will introduce the film. The Embassy of Greece will serve Wine and Snacks, after the screening.

‘LIKE WATER FOR CHOCOLATE’, MEXICO, Directed by Alfonso Arau.
Saturday, 31 March at 4:00 pm

This is a unique and unforgettable story of magical realism, about the sensual, surreal effects of Food on love, passion, marriage, and even the Revolution, not to forget the after-life! The movie, based on the novel by Laura Esquivel, won more than 20 awards around the world, and was Mexico’s nomination for the Oscar, in 1993.

The Ambassador of the Embassy of Mexico, HE Jaime Nualart, will introduce the film. Drinks and Snacks will be served, and the Mexican Embassy will offer a chocolate surprise!

    Do you know if there are screenings planned for June 2018 at all – this is when we are both over in BK again!

      They haven’t made any announcement yet. I guess it depends on how successful this season is.
