Awful news, my condolences to the family. Yes, it is much harder to navigate the backroads in Thailand, but definitely worthwhile in terms of safety, because unskilled and reckless driving is so common here. Personally, I cycle the roads in Thailand only to get to the trails, which are free of cars.

It would be very hard to ride on local roads especially between two main destination like Khonkaen to Bangkok All cyalist rode on highways.

Very sad indeed, although I am really surprised that many bicyclist choice the dangerous main roads of Thailand to ride their bicycle. There are many nice upcountry roads and they choose the so called “highways”, why? Hopefully this will be lesson to other people making bicycle trips in Thailand … do NOT use the “highways” … it is dangerous!

It should really be a lesson learned for drivers, they are ones that are using these killing machines with limited driver training.

Yes indeed SHOULD be but in reality is not and many people die on what are called highways in Thailand. So whenever I am riding my motorbike in try to avoid these “highways” and that is in most times very easy to do.
