Dates for Rehearsals for “Trooping of the Colours” in Bangkok

One of the highlights of the photographer’s calender for December is the Trooping of the Colour which celebrates HM The King’s birthday on 5th December. The actual event itself is not easy to photograph as members of the royal family are present. However, you are free to do so during the rehearsals. I took these pictures during such a rehearsal a few years ago. They don’t normally announce dates and times of these rehearsals, but I have managed to get them from the local traffic radio station as there will be road closures during the rehearsal.

Please note, any of this information is subject to change and doesn’t give exact times for the rehearsal itself. But gives clues for when and where to expect it. From the pictures I have seen so far, the event is being held on and around Sanam Luang near the Grand Palace in Bangkok. The road closures have been announced for Friday 28th and Saturday 29th November, and Tuesday 2nd December 2014. If there are any updates I will post on Twitter @RichardBarrow.

Friday 28th November: Phra Chan and Maha Rat roads will be closed from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Saturday 29th November and Tuesday 2nd December: Lak Muang, Kalayana Maitri, Charoen Krung, Saran Rom, Phra Phiphit, Setthakan, Chetuphon, Thai Wang, Maha Rat (next to the Grand Palace and Wat Maha That), Phra Chan, Phraya Phet, Na Phra Lan, Na Phra That, Rachini and Phra Athit Roads will be closed from 4 am. to 4 p.m. Sanam Chai and Ratchadamnoen Nai Roads will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

I will update this page as and when I get any more information.

Yes, for sure. But I will do it over on my More Thai travel news: http://www.thaitravelblogs.com website. As soon as I hear something I will post there and on social media. But as we’ve now changed King’s it’s not clear whether the will move the date.
