The details for the latest steam train trip in Thailand have just been announced. This will take place on Tuesday 12th August 2014 and will go from Bangkok’s Hua Lamphong’s station to Nakhon Pathom. This will take place on the Queen’s Birthday which is also a public holiday. So, tickets are expected to go fast. This year there are three options for joining this trip:

  • Return ticket only on the steam train – 222 Baht
  • Return ticket and tour with State Railway of Thailand – 555 Baht
  • Return ticket and tour with Tourism Authority of Thailand – 999 Baht

Tour with SRT:

8:15 am Leave Hua Lamphong
10:00 am Arrive at Woodland – City of Wood
12:00 pm Lunch at Moo Ban Thai
1:30 pm Shopping at Don Wai Riverside Market
3:00 pm Visit Phra Pathom Chedi
4:45 pm Board steam train for return trip

This tour is 555 Baht. Book your tickets now at the train station. If you only want the steam train trip, this is only 222 Baht.

Train and tour tickets with the SRT are available at Hua Lamphong station and at other stations in Bangkok and along the route. If you don’t want to be disappointed then best to book now. Let me know in the comments if you are going or have bought the tickets already.

Hi Richard, I’m in Singapore and plan to come up for this trip. Do you know if its possible to get tickets in advance online? I’m looking through their railway website but can’t find anything. Thanks in advance

I think you can only buy at the train stations though I do know some travel agents bulk book in advance for tours.

    Hi Richard,

Do you have details of the tour with SRT or the overall trip itinerary?

    Thank you.

I haven’t seen any details yet. Only to say it will be mainly of interest to Thais so it will probably be a temple or two and a food market. I’ll post as soon as I get a full itinerary.

Richard thanks for this, one question before I purchase my tickets: I was a bit disappointed with the lame tour on the Ayuttaya Steam Train trip and I cannot find any information on the difference between the SRT B555 tour and the B999 TAT tour for this trip.

    Do you have a recommendation?

    Thank you

In theory you could do your own tour. The problem with joining Thais on a tour is that they will only see what interests them. There are a few things near the train station, others you would need local transport. I believe the TAT tour goes further afield to places like Amphawa etc.
