Map of Bangkok Protest Sites in December 2013

sundayrally

UPDATED on 30th December 2013: It is now expected to be quiet over the new year holiday. Many tourists still reporting that they didn’t see any protesters during their holiday in Bangkok. It’s a big city and as long as you stay away from the rally sites and any large gathering you will be perfectly fine. Don’t worry. But, do follow me on Twitter for breaking news 24/7

After 2nd January 2014 we are expecting a big rally across Bangkok. Police are expecting it to be peaceful but it will cause gridlock. We don’t yet know which day or any of their intended targets. But we are expecting it to be more prolonged this time. Follow on twitter for more information as soon as I get it, 24/7.

Hi Richard, I’ll be heading to Bangkok today and will be staying in the Pratunam area. Can you let me know the protest location at Pratunam? I can’t access Google maps. Also, will protests only take place in the afternoon? Would it be safe to travel to the new Rot Fai Night Market near Seacon Square on 22 December? Thank you so much!

I read your Twitter and saw news that there’ll be a mass protest on Sunday. May I seek for your advice if the Pratunam area is affected, and should we just stay indoor for the day? Hi Richard,
Thanks for the updates, I have been following your tweets very closely. I am going to Bangkok tomorrow with my family. We will be staying at the Evergreen Place, near Ratchadewi BTS. It doesn’t appear to be at the protest sites but seems to be relatively near. Can you kindly advise if It is ok? Thanks so much.

You will be fine. don’t worry. It’s not like they are bandits coming out at night to attack foreign tourists! Just stay away from large gatherings and you will have no problems. Many tourists still reporting they haven’t seen any protesters during their holiday so far.

Protesters were marching everywhere but they were peaceful and only caused traffic congestion. You will be fine there. It is actually recommended to stay somewhere along the skytrain route.
