News is coming out this evening of a ferry capsizing off the coast off Pattaya. The ferry, with as many as 150 on board, was bringing tourists back home after spending the day on Koh Larn. There was a mixture of Thai and foreign tourists onboard when it is believed that one of the water pumps malfunctioned. The boat started taking on water and then quickly capsized. This is normally a busy shipping lane between the island and Pattaya but this was the last ferry boat of the evening. Many people had to tread water for a long time before rescue ships and other tourists boats came to their aid. The latest reports suggest that as many as six tourists have drowned and 10 seriously injured. This number could rise this evening as only 100 passengers have been rescued so far. No names or nationalities of the passengers are known as the crew are not required to write anything down. However, we do know so far that three Thais and three foreigners have drowned.
