No Shutdown at the US Embassy in Bangkok & Consulate General in Chiang Mai

usembassybangkok

On Tuesday, the US Government began a partial shutdown for the first time in 17 years. This means that up to 1 million workers will go on unpaid leave which will close national parks and other government services. But, according to Reuters (see here), spending for essential functions related to national security and public safety will continue, including pay for U.S. military troops. According to a tweet from the US Embassy in Bangkok, this will include both the embassy and consulate general in Thailand.

RT @ACSBKK: The U.S. Embassy in Bangkok and the U.S. Consulate General in Chiang Mai remain open for all consular services, including visa processing.

    Hello Richard,
I hope you might help me out with my dream vacation that seems to be slowly turning into a nightmare. I will be traveling to Bangkok on March 3rd and staying at The Ramada Hotel and Suites 22 Sukhumvit Soi 12 Klongtoey. Is this a safe area? OR is there such a place in Bangkok during the civil unrest? I have called my hotel in Bangkok and the Hotel Director stated that the area was quite and safe. ALL I want to do is see the Grand Palace, Marble Temple, Wat Pro(SP) Temple…just the general Bangkok attractions.
    Should I cancel?
    Should I go for it?
    Can you help?
    Thanks,
    Keith

Looks like there is still taxi access from the south (rally site to the northeast). I would say far enough away to be quiet. You should be fine. Bangkok is a big place.

    Much appreciated,
