Visit to the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Bangkok

One of my favourite hotels in Bangkok is the Mandarin Oriental. And the best way to arrive there is by their free shuttle boat that takes you from BTS Saphan Thaksin all the way to the hotel. I visited again yesterday to attend a press conference.

This is the original building. It was built in 1879 and was then called The Oriental. It was the first purpose built hotel in Bangkok.

The highlight for sure is the lobby with their beautiful floral decorations. I love coming here at Christmas time too for the innovative designs.

This picture is the Author’s Lounge which is in the old building. Perfect setting for weddings. I have been here quite a few times for various functions. Joseph Conrad, Somerset Maugham, Noël Coward, Graham Greene, John le Carré, Barbara Cartland, Tennessee Williams, and James A. Michener are among the famous authors who have stayed at the Oriental.
