Safety Barriers or Advertising Billboards?

safetybarriers

It was exactly one year ago that I first reported that the BTS had started to put in place safety barriers on the platform at Siam (see tweet below). Other countries have these already and so I wasn’t surprised that we would be getting some too. After all, the platforms at the more popular stations such as BTS Siam are very crowded during rush. It is always worrying that someone will fall onto the electric tracks. However, a year has passed and these safety barriers have still not been turned on. People are starting to talk as to whether they were put there for the safety of passengers or just for the advertising space. What do you think?

I say advertising! Why would the ads be turned on already before even having the safety gate working?
In any case I think they will ultimately turn it on, but surely need to have some more wiring here to synchronize the door opening of the BTS with those gates.

Talking ads in BTS, there is also a huge TV screen now over our heads in some stations… I wonder if the speaker will be adapted to the size (if that is the case you won’t see me using BTS ever again).
I feel BTS Chitlom is the most noisy and try to avoid it now if I can…
