Photo Tour of the French Ambassador’s Residence in Bangkok

Every year, people in France have a chance to visit the hidden treasures of less well-known sites such as banks, courts, prefectures, chambers of commerce etc., all sorts of buildings that are usually closed to the public or rarely visited. European Heritage Days are held in most countries during September. In France it is in the third weekend of September. In London, they have their open days during the following weekend. In Bangkok we have a chance to join European Heritage Days. At the moment, only the French Embassy have organized a special event. Hopefully in the future, more embassies will get involved to open their doors and also maybe organize special tours to visit other European Heritage sites around Bangkok.

Today, visitors to the French Embassy had the rare opportunity to visit the French Ambassador’s Residence that overlooks the Chao Phraya River. The original building dates back to the 1830’s, however it has been added onto extensively during the 20th Century. Then during the last decade it went through another series of renovations to modernize it. During today’s open day, we were allowed up to the living room and large dining room on the second floor, then down to the reception room on the ground floor and the swimming pool around the back. Guests were even give a taste of French cuisine and were able to watch old film archives. Please enjoy this picture tour…..

Very cool, and what a splendid house.
I think the ambassador might want to treat himself to a new PC though. Looks like that one was installed when they built the residence in the 1830s 😉

For the last photo : no close-ups of the sculptures of French sculptors resident in Thailand. A little regret!
