Open Day at the French Ambassador’s Residence in Bangkok on 15 September 2013

As in previous years, the Embassy of France in Thailand will open the French Ambassador’s Residence to the public as part of “European Heritage Days”. This is an historical building that dates back to the early 19th Century.

Heritage Days have been held every year since 1984 on the third weekend of September by the French authorities in France and abroad to promote the richness and diversity of public buildings. They were subsequently adopted by other European countries. This “open house” in Bangkok will take place on Sunday 15th September 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The French Embassy can be found at: No. 35, rue de Brest, Thanon Charoenkrung Soi 36, in the district of Bang Rak, Bangkok.

The tour offered to visitors allows them to visit the large living room and large dining room with a table set, located on the first floor of the residence of the Ambassador of France, as well as reception areas on the ground floor of this building. Exhibitions of photographs and archival films, the story of the Rue de Siam Brest, as well as sculptures of French artists based in Thailand will complete the visit. Members of the embassy staff will be present to guide visitors and answer their questions.

Also on this day, the President of the EU National Institutes of Culture (EUNIC) Thailand and the French Ambassador HE Mr Thierry Viteau, will present Bangkok Governor HE Mr Sukhumbhand Paribatra with the ‘European Heritage Map’ of Bangkok and Ayutthaya. This map highlights 64 sites in Bangkok and Ayutthaya that are of importance in the rich history of European-Thai relations. The map will be available free of charge to the general public.
