Car Free Day this year is on Sunday 22nd September 2013. A number of cities around Thailand will be organizing cycling events on that day for local bicycle enthusiasts. Bangkok is expected to have the biggest bicycle rally with an estimated 20,000 cyclists taking part. All of them will be dressed in either red, white and blue with the intention to have their picture taken making a large living flag of Thailand. Most people will cycle into Bangkok with their local cycle club. There will be 23 meeting points around Bangkok. Most will set off at around 6 a.m. If this is too early you can go straight to Sanam Luang by yourself where the Bangkok Governor will oversee the opening ceremony at 8 a.m. The plan is then for everyone to cycle through Bangkok from Sanam Luang to CentralWorld. The route is Ratchadamnoen Road, Si Ayutthaya Road, Phayathai Road, Rama IV Road and Ratchadamri Road. Later in the day there will be activities around Sanam Luang so you might want to head back there afterwards.

So far I haven’t seen anything this year. At the moment you would need to contact your local cycling club. I think I will go by myself to Sanam Luang for 8 a.m. I think that is better that way.

I would really like to photograph this but it seems that it is really not a car free day, just a bike rally through part of the city which Jakarta almost every Sunday in the center of the city.. imagine it might just clog traffic on other streets..when I saw the posters it seemed interesting in a city where there are 2 million more cars than people. Thanks for the information, love all your tweets.. very informative Richard..
