Oil Slick Spreads to Beach on Koh Samet

These are the pictures that tourism in Thailand doesn’t need. On Saturday morning, oil leaked from PTT Global Chemical Public Company (PTTGC)’s pipeline of the Rayong coast. Over the weekend, Thai media reported that more than 50 tons of crude oil was visibly seen 20 kilometers off the coast. Then last night it had reached Phrao Bay on the holiday island of Koh Samet. According to MCOT,  by about 10pm on Sunday night, 600 metres of Phrao Bay beach was covered in oil, with an oil slick 20-30 cm thick floating some 20 metres from the beach.
