The new Thai movie “Pee Mak Phra Khanong” has been doing really well at the box office. In just ten days it has made 231 Million Baht, making it the second most successful Thai movie. It’s doubtful though it will grab the crown as this firmly belongs to Suriyothai which has made 550 Million Baht.

4. Legend of King Naresuan Part 2 – ฿216 Million
5. Legend of King Naresuan Part 3 – ฿203 Million

UPDATE: According to The Nation, only cinemas in Bangkok and Chiang Mai are being counted for the industry’s box-office totals, even though in recent years more multiplex cinemas have opened upcountry. So, once they add national box office receipts, the totals could surpass Suriyothai.

Went to see it subtitled and frankly I think you miss most of it if you cannot speak Thai fluently, may be the subtitles were bad but I found myself wondering why people were laughing so hard on many occasions. I think most of the humour is in the language and without it you’re just left with silly acting.

Are Thai movies shown in Paragon/CentralWorld subtitled in English usually? I really want to watch some of these films (including this one and the one starring Nadech).

You shouldn’t have a problem in Bangkok. The code is often written TH/EN for Thai movies with English subtitles.

Watched it yesterday. Had no idea it was so popular. What is it about this particular movie that has sold so many tickets?

Combination of a reboot of the popular Mae Nak story and the fact that it stars Mario. Of course, their social media campaign helped a lot.
