Major Update for Google Street View in Thailand

pattayasv

Google Thailand announced today that they have done a major update for Street View. According to a tweet this morning, they said that “7 new provinces just went live on Street View in Thailand”. These include Pattaya, Chon Buri, Bang Lamung, Sattahip, Bo Thong and other locations in Thailand. Street View was launched in Thailand just one year ago (see my original report).  To see Street View in action, just visit maps.google.co.th and to the left of the screen you will see a little man above the zoom control. Drag him onto the map and you will see blue lines like below. This tells you which areas have already been photographed. In these three screenshots from March 2012,  October 2012 and April 2013, you can clearly see how much more area around Bangkok and the neighbouring provinces have now been photographed. Other areas include the road north to Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai and the road south to Phuket.

    They also updated the maps.
I have seen some improvements, but also silly bugs like:
A “Na Kluea” label down the Prathumnak hill (Jomtien).
“Pattaya Nua” road instead of “Pattaya Nuea”.
    Meybe many others…
I have reported the two, lets wait what happens.

Street View is excellent for a reccee. It allows me to “see” the place before actually making my trip there.
Wonderful that coverage is much more comprehensive now 🙂

Lampang and Lamphun are newly added but not yet complete, Suphanburi, Ratchaburi and Kanchanaburi get more area covered but not yet fully cvovered, and Ayutthaya now almost fully covered. And of course as mentioned Chonburi now almost completely as well.
