We haven’t even entered the hottest month of the year yet in Thailand but we have already broken power consumption records. In 2011, Thailand’s power usage stood at a high of 23,900 megawatts. At this time last year I remember blogging that we had just broken a new record of first 24,464 and then 24,571 megawatts. But this was surpassed later on 26 April 2012 when a record 26,121 megawatts was used. Well, today is only 28 March and we have already broken that record. The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) have come out to say that today we peaked at 26,430 megawatts when temperatures hit a high 39.1 Celsius.

How much hotter do you think it will get in April? The highest temperature in Thailand in the last 10 years was 44 Celsius in Mae Hong Son on 15 May 2010. The highest temperature in 60 years was 44.5 Celsius on 27 April 1960 in Uttaradit.
