Buying a Slow Juicer in Thailand

As you probably know by now I’m very much into juicing and feel great for it. I have more energy during the day and no longer need to drink coffee. Over the new year I bought myself a Philips centrifugal juicer. These kinds of juicers are around 4-7,000 Baht. They are great and do a wonderful job, but they are not perfect.

When I bought my juicer I knew about the more expensive masticating juicers. These are sometimes called a slow juicer. These are priced from 12,000 Baht upwards. I know these were better but at the time I couldn’t justify the price as I thought juicing might just be a passing fad. It hasn’t been so far.

Although I love my juicer, there are a few problems. The juice separates quite quickly and you can’t store for long. On the other hand the slow juicers make juice you can keep 2-3 days, doesn’t separate and the colours are richer. The pulp is also drier which means you get more juice.

This juicer is a Hurom-500 and costs 13,900 Baht at Central Chidlom. Older models are 12,900 Baht. If you have a 1-Card you can get a 10% discount. Very tempting to buy one.

    Great article!
I bought the same Hurom juicer at Central Chidlom this year. It has been doing great work but now I moved to a much smaller condo and I have no space for it. Therefore I would like to sell it. If anyone here is interested, it is in excellent condition, from 2016 and can be picked up in Bangkok, near BTS On Nut.
Contact me by Line: cyberseraph1 or Tel. 0953411140

I’m currently using Lifestyle Juicery service for detoxing btw.

this is what I was saying the new flashy new vertical design machines (i.e. Hurom and other look alike models)
Yes they “look” good but unfortunately do not hold up like the horizontal designs slow juicers such as the Oscar DA-1000.
The Oscar is designed for long term use, all veggies including the hard to juice greens and wear & tear is slow over the years. Its the only med range slow speed juicer model here that is going to get you where you want to go to over time.

When I bought the vertical juicer from Hurom it was supposed to be the best in the world. Now comes the horizontal model. I own a US made Champion 2000 horizontal juicer for 20 years. Use it almost every day. Never had to replace the parts. The model is still the same after 20 years. Next year the Korean juicer will have a new model better than the old one and after two years it will be broken and parts won’t be available. Forget about Korean juicer.

yes K., can agree and also not agree with you some too as there are many fine details involved and its just not so simple as you make it out to be sorry to say

The Champion juicer is a good juicer yes for but only hard carrots and frozen bananas basically, yes perfect juicer for that sort of thing no question

but . . . its not “slow-speed” and can not process “greens” (very important for a healthy juicing program) nearly at all and when you do the juice quality is very low quality & very little as well

the Hurom juicer is a vertical design true and while they look good and sound good on-line, anyone who uses one more than say 3 to 6 months knows they are not a properly designed juicer for juicing greens certainly and will just wear out quickly with only moderate use. Also not easy to clean or assemble either. We do not know anyone who needs a juicer like that!

Basically they look good at first but quickly wear out so i can agree with you and is why i wont offer them any longer even though they are about 25% lower in cost to the horizontal design Oscar juicer I offer.

if you read my comments above i have clearly expressed why the Oscar Juicer is the only slow-juicer on the market with a reasonable price to own

another point is i really don’t like to deal with a broken parts and returns (very time consuming believe me!) and with this Oscar Juicer I nearly never have these sorts of issues

so please don’t give up on all Korean Juicers just yet, honestly we have not found anything better designed anywhere

horizontal design sure for now is the only way to go for a slow speed juicer and if you want the best design possible now (for this med price range mind you) then there is only one choice for now we know of Oscar DA-1000 and if it was not true i would be offering something else can can be sure

The Oscar DA-900 is EXACTLY the same as Hurom DA-900, I bet they are built in the same factory and it’s just a re-branding, only Hurom is cheaper.

I had a Hurom and small parts broke very fast. Also it jammed often. By contrast I had the Champion for 20 years and I have never changed any spare parts, even the O ring. Yhere only only one model and it is still the same as it was 20 years ago I use it every day. Need I say more?

Thanks to good advice – I bought one and really enjoyed. But I have a problem now – the maid blew one of the two filter screens and the black bulk head is also scratched. I need some service and spares and am willing to pay for it. I live in Bangkok not far from central Chidlombut no one here understands English
Can you suggest whom to contact

Can you not take it back to where you bought it? Show them the broken filters which should be good enough for them to understand.

I just bought my Hurom from Central Chidlom. Firstly I use to hate cucumber but juicing them and adding a little lemon it’s wonderful.

Cucumber is a good base for any juice as there is a lot of liquid.

Being in Chiang Mai it is harder to find the Hurom slow juicer. I got one off of ebay, shipped directly from Korea where they are manufactured. Got it for 10,000 THB and another 2,000 THB for import duties. Only thing is the documentation is all in Korean. But very happy in all other regards.

I have been using such a juicer since January. It’s great – far better than the older-style 1st and 2nd generation juicers.
    1. Juice yields are much higher. The {waste} pulp is dry (and can be re-used in baking if desired).
    2. One may juice additional things, like making soya milk and almond milk – plus cherry and pomegranite juice. You can juice leafy greens, as well.
    3. These juicers are self-feeding. So you can synch your prep work (cutting cucumbers or apples to size) with dropping produce into the juicer – and letting the juicer do the rest of the work.
    4. They are easier to clean.

I hope you soak your produce in vinegar (or the like) before cutting to fit the juicer. I’m sure that you’re well aware of the reports of pesticide and herbicide residues on produce in Thailand and elsewhere – and how such residues are found in some “fresh juices” found around the country. If you increase your intakes of such stuff you may want to reduce the chemical residues from the produce before you consume such stuff.. It’s worth checking out methods for reducing such residue before juicing…

Here’s a link to the distributor’s Website in Thailand. You can delete it and the youtube demo videos if they appear too commercial – but the videos shown on the Website, plus the youtube videos may be informative:
