9 Forbidden Things for Chinese New Year

Like the Vegetarian Festival, there is a list of nine things that you shouldn’t do during the Chinese New Year Festival. This explains why my local johk shop wasn’t open this morning. Apparently they are not allowed to eat rice porridge.

1. Do not clean your home
2. Do not wash or cut your hair
3. Do not swear
4. Do not eat rice porridge and meat
5. Do not wash your clothes
6. Do not wear black or white
7. Do not lend money
8. Do not break anything
9. Do not buy new shoes
