Rehearsals for the Trooping of the Colours in Bangkok

One of the most colourful royal events in Thailand is the annual Trooping of the Colours. This marks the birthday of HM The King. About 2,000 troops march down Ratchadamnoen Avenue to the Royal Plaza where they pledge allegiance to His Majesty. Yesterday they held a rehearsal with the next one on Thursday 22 November. However, the full dress rehearsals should be of more interest. At the moment two are slated for Sunday 25 November and Sunday 2 December. If I hear about any changes I will tweet from @RichardBarrow.

UPDATE: Last Sunday’s dress rehearsal was cancelled due to the political rally. I have just heard that the rehearsals are now scheduled for 29th November and 2nd December from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. I have never been before and so I don’t know what kind of restrictions there might be. As always, dates and times are subject to change without notice. I cannot get to the Thursday one but I plan to be there on Sunday.

Great, thanks. I’m actually next door at Dusit Zoo but won’t have time to go.

I hope today’s political demonstrations will not inconvenience the event tomorrow. I look forward to hearing more details from you when yo get them. I plan on attending if all goes well. I’m a photographer so it is a great opportunity. Thanks.

I was going to go today but it has been raining hard. No fun waiting in the rain for an event that might not happen. According to the original Bangkok Post article the other week, there is another next Sunday. But, as they don’t publicize these rehearsals, there is no way of knowing if it has been cancelled or changed to a different date. If I find something out I will let you know.

Sorry, I’m not there. But I just saw a picture of 15,000 police assembled in the Royal Plaza being dismissed to go back home.

Do you know at what time the rehearsal will take place on sunday and will it be in danger because of the anti-government demonstration which may run on ’till sunday?

Also, isn’t the main event on december 2nd? Do you know what time it’ll start?

I don’t know yet what time but I plan to go on Sunday. Yes, there is a possibility the rally will run over which might be a problem for the rehearsal. I don’t have details yet for final day but as the King is there you won’t be able to get anywhere near. All you can do is wait along the Ratchadamnoen Avenue for him to pass. That is why I am keen to go to the rehearsal.

Thanks. I’ll try to go to the rehearsal on sunday as well. If you find more details about the time, I’d be happy to hear them.
