New Night River Cruise in Bangkok for 80 Baht

A highlight of any trip to Bangkok are the dinner cruises along the Chao Phraya River. This is a great way to relax after a day of sightseeing.  I have done this several times and I always admire the scenery along the river at night. Many of the important monuments and buildings are lit up at night. The only downside is that the food is not always that good. Plus you are looking at paying more than 1,000 Baht to join the cruise. So, I was interested to see that there is now a new night tour along the Chao Phraya and the price is only 80 Baht! It starts and finishes at Asiatique The Riverfront. I don’t know many details yet, but I do know that there are three rounds: 7 pm, 8pm and 9pm and they only run Friday to Sunday. I might try and do this soon and will then post pictures and more information over at www.ThaiTravelBlogs.com.

It’s a real shame nothing ever came if this because I know lots of friends who would also have liked this.
THB80 seems very cheap, I would happily have paid THB250!

One of my favourite advice is to have people end their day trip at Nonthaburi at around 4pm, or thereabouts. Take the river-boat all the way down to Asiatique for a mere 15 baht. It’s an hour and a half ride of a breezy, jam-free scenic trip. PLUS, you get to enjoy the beautiful sunset all along the way. Sit on the right side of the boat if you want to take photos with the sun in it.

I bring all my guests on this cheap and good boat-ride. As an added bonus, there’s a shop which sells fantastic bread (with an assortment of meat fillings) a minute’s walk from the Nonthaburi Jetty. It’s along the main thoroughfare, just beyond where all the buses make their U-Turn. If no one understands English, just say “Kha-Nom Phang”. Either that, or just use your nose.

    Bon Appetit & Bon Voyage

Yes, go to BTS Saphan Taksin which is next to the river. Walk to the piers on the far left. You will see a sign there for the free Asiatique shuttle boat. If you are not in a rush then wait for me to join this tour first. I will then gather more information.

Thanks for the tip. Will the boat go all the way to Asiatique? I thought the last stop was the temple just before Asiatique. Do you have to change at Saphan Taksin still to get the free shuttle boat to Asiatique?

    Hi Richard,
Another visit to Bangkok nightlife on the Chao Phraya. A low price of 80 THB without food? What is the name of the port of embarkation? Thanks for your report!

Like I said, I will blog about it as soon as I have joined the cruise. Maybe next week. Of course, the 80 Baht doesn’t include a meal but I guess you can take some sandwiches along 🙂

It sounds to good to be true. But your information was always correct, and I respect your knowledge of Thailand.I am a regular visitor of Thailand (married almost 25 years with my Thai wife)so I also known a little bit of the country.Anyway, Asiatique is still a great place tot hang around, even when there is not a 80 baht boat tot cross the Chao Phraya river.

Hi Richard, any updates on this? We would love to take a night river cruise for two persons without the dinner part (in July 2014). Although Asiatique is convenient, any point of embarkation or route will do.

Not sure if this is still running as several people said they didn’t see it. But you can join river dinner cruises from River City for about 1,000+ Baht

            Hi Richard
Thanks for your comment. I knew about the dinner cruises but I would have preferred it as a cruise only as I would have liked to take pics/videos along the way. On the other hand if you’re having dinner 2 hours is a bit of a struggle :-)to manage all.If you have new info pls let me know.
            Thanks and best Regards
            Sandro
