Countdown to FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012 in Thailand

The clock is ticking and we are fast getting nearer to the start of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2012. This year Bangkok is hosting it. I spotted this countdown clock in front of the BACC this afternoon. The clock reads 26 days, 11 hours, 40 minutes and 36 seconds until the start of the tournament. Not long at all. But, if you look at a recent photo of the purpose built stadium below, you will see why people are starting to panic. Will they really finish building the stadium even if they work 24/7? It is very doubtful.

UPDATE: It’s now official that the stadium won’t be finished on time. The first matches will now be played at the Indoor Stadium Huamark (Full story).

Well since I’m going to the final they’ve got a fighting chance. Typically Thai to not finish building the main stadium late.

What’s the point in building it for the tournament if it won’t even be ready. One 11,000 seater stadium is hardly a major task compared to the actual Football World Cup or the Olympics.

    Great update Richard.

I’m going to the final so hopefully they finish the stadium by then!

Sadly it won’t be finished. However they are optimistic that the multi million Baht specially built stadium will be finished in time for the finals.
