Maps Showing How Quickly Thailand is Losing Forests

These two maps clearly show how much forest Thailand has lost over the years. But, what is even more shocking, is that the map on the left represents the year 1963. That is a lot of forest that has been lost in such a short period of time. Probably goes a long way to explaining the devastating landslides and flash-floods that we have been having over the last few years. This is a trend that does need to stop or there won’t be a future.

I would love to see a version of the 1963 map I could zoom in on if possible.

Also this 1999 long report has much food for thought. Looking at the pathetic state of forest nurseries around the country and the widespread forest fires gives little cause for optimism.
