Crackdowns in Thailand Don’t Usually Last Long

If you have lived in Thailand for even just a short while, you will probably have noticed that the police are not always strict with the law. However, every now and then, they have a crackdown when they come down hard on people. But, everyone knows that after a few days, a week at the most, things will be back to normal again. It is only a show put on for the media so that public can see that at the very least, they did make an effort. Take the vendors at Siam Square as an example. There was a crackdown here to stop them selling things on the sidewalk. This area is very crowded with shoppers and having vendors on the sidewalk just makes it even worse. Sometimes we have to walk on the road as there is no room left. Take a look at these pictures and make your own decision as to whether the crackdown actually worked.

As far as I have learned there is a specific period for policemen to crackdown. When ordered to crackdown from the top they do their duty as written on the law during the period. However when the period to crackdown expires then everything goes back to the previous circumstances again.
